As part of Sounds Profitable’s mission to uplift and connect the podcast industry, we’re conducting a series of interviews with industry professionals and leaders to share their stories and insights about where podcasting is, and where it’s going. Today we speak to Louis Roberts, Head of Business Development at OpusClip.

What follows is a transcript of the video:

Hello, my name is Louis Roberts. I work at OpusClip and I work on the Opus Search product.

How does OpusClip help video podcasters stay ahead of the trend curve?

We’re building a trends notification tool that can look across trends over Reddit and Google Trends and then marry it to your catalog of content. Meaning if something is trending on Reddit or through Google Trends, then the clips will be cut by the trends themselves. No more having to be like, “should I be looking at this trend or that trend?” We know exactly what is in your catalog and then we can cut those clips for you so you’re always staying on trend.

How do tools like OpusClip help podcasters make the most of their back catalogs?

So what we built is a way for you to auto ingest your entire catalog and then you can make it searchable. Meaning you find your best moments and repurpose them over and over and over again. You see if you are a creator, you’ve probably seen some clip that you’ve had show up on a repurposer’s channel or some aggregator’s channel over the years. Now you can do that and take back your own audience.

How important is it to monetize clips in today’s podcasting scene?

So I worked at the Pat McAfee Show forever and was with Pat when we started the YouTube show. We monetized our clips and got our clips to about the same mid-form clips, about five to 10 minute clips and we put in a 15 second ad in there. We got that CPM with partners like SeatGeek and Roman to about the same CPM as we were getting for a 30 to 60 second read live in the show. And I think it’s a different way for podcasters to look at it but you have so much content. You can’t, in a long form episode, you can only put in three, four, five different advertisers at most and a lot of people watch shorts or clips now so you have to be able to monetize your entire catalog.

How can people get signed up to try out this functionality?

You can go to opus.pro and go to the search tab, click on the form to go onto the waitlist and we will reach back out to you to test the tool.
