About the role:

As Video and Sound Engineer/Post Production Manager, you’ll oversee the entire post-production process for Quill’s portfolio of client podcasts—both audio and video—across diverse industries, from travel and lifestyle to tech and finance. You’ll ensure every episode meets the highest technical and creative standards, managing everything from editing workflows to quality control. The role requires a blend of executional work (you will be the lead editor on complex, high-profile clients and provide technical expertise to clients as well), leadership and mentorship (you will manage audio and video editors and help develop and refine post-production processes and workflows), creativity, and client communication.

This role requires strong technical expertise, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. You’ll collaborate closely with producers, project managers, and clients to deliver polished, on-brand content that engages audiences and reflects our reputation for excellence.

You will work in a primarily remote environment and must be comfortable managing team priorities, problem-solving technical challenges, and staying ahead of evolving podcast production trends in both audio and video.

Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 CAD

Responsibilities:

  • Edit and finalize podcast content (audio and video), ensuring professional-grade sound, visuals, and storytelling  (content and assembly cuts, rough cuts, final masters), and a top-notch final product
  • Provide technical support during remote recordings, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring seamless session execution. Be able to review existing materials and identify issues with them and how you would be able to solve them (including video footage, audio footage, etc.)
  • Lead and mentor the editing team, setting best practices, optimizing workflows, and maintaining consistency across all productions. Finding and working with freelance editors when necessary. Reviewing the work of other editors on the team and being able to make suggestions for improvement or correct their mistakes
  • Collaborate with the production team, working with producers, project managers, creative professionals, and clients directly to effectively produce and tell stories through 
  • Creative strategy on post-production, such as understanding and educating on available options, different formats, and processes, etc. Understanding trends and tools in post-production, and keeping up with what we should be using to improve workflows
  • Video and audio editing of a variety of podcasts at a variety of different stages (content and assembly cuts, rough cuts, final masters) to ensure a top-notch final product
    • Sound mixing
    • Light colour grading
    • Light graphics and animation
    • Sound design
  • Identifying technical audio and video issues in audio and flagging/identifying how to correct them
  • Adhering to internal and client deadlines
  • Producing audiograms and other short-form audio and video content to promote podcasts
  • Identifying technical audio issues in audio and flagging/identifying how to correct them

Skills and experience:

  • Well-developed audio and video editing skills, including editing, mixing, mastering, basic colour correction, and basic animation skills
  • General knowledge of music licensing laws and different music licensing platforms
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop), and Descript
  • Experience with technical audio best practices and standards, including recording software, recording hardware such as microphones, headphones, and more specifically, in a remote environment
  • Experience with video composition and framing
  • Experience with large video files with knowledge of how to ingest and create proxies
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and storytelling skills;
    • Podcast editing often requires condensing 60 minutes of content or more to 20-30 minutes, so an understanding of how to edit material and maintain a story is a must
  • Understanding of the podcasting landscape and industry, or a willingness to learn
  • Excellent time management, project management, and communication skills
  • Management and leadership skills that would allow you to train and mentor other editors
  • Client-facing communication and presentation skills; willingness and ability to interact with clients
