New York, NY (Thursday, August 8th, 2024) — Conspiracy theories captivate public discourse like never before. In January, it was Taylor Swift’s Super Bowl psyop. Then came the spring of #WhereIsKate. Now, it’s Kamala’s brat coup summer. That’s why Cristen Conger from Unladylike has been investigating the uncanny valleys through an intersectional feminist lens.

In her brilliant new series Conspiracy, She Wrote, she’s revealing women’s overlooked roles in conspiracy culture as architects, evangelizers, and symbols. From pastel QAnon to royal pregnancy truthers to Taylor Swift psyops, Conspiracy, She Wrote quickly uncovers how even the most absurd fictions have plenty of truths to tell us about what we choose or refuse to believe and why.

Cristen Conger shares, “Conspiracy theories aren’t just fringe ideas; they reflect deeper societal anxieties and biases,” Cristen says. “Even absurd conspiracies like Beyonce’s “Illuminati mess” contain kernels of truth worth investigating.”

In season one, Conspiracy, She Wrote starts at the very beginning when the fascist foremothers of modern conspiracism were “just asking questions” about deep state plots, elite cabals and shady secret societies a century ago. From there, the show peels back the layers of the detective collectives within women’s spaces, interests and entertainment with experts like misogynoir scholar Moya Bailey, NPR music reporter and Louder Than a Riot host Sidney Madden and Conspiracy Chart creator Abbie Richards.

An established voice on 21st-century women, gender and feminism, Cristen Conger is a podcaster, writer and professional womansplainer. She is also the creator and host of the Webby Award-winning lifestyle podcast Unladylike and co-author of Unladylike: A Field Guide to Smashing the Patriarchy and Claiming Your Space. Her accidental podcast career began in 2009 as co-creator and co-host of Stuff Mom Never Told You. Whatever the topic or medium, Cristen researches, reports and regales with the motto: Stay curious. Build empathy. Raise hell.

The first episode drops Thursday, August 8th. Conspiracy, She Wrote is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and all major podcast platforms.
