We’re looking for a talented and experienced social media producer to work with the Freakonomics Radio Network on a six-month contract with possibility to extend.
Freakonomics Radio has one of the largest and most influential audiences in the world and now we’re launching a new premium video show called Better in Person. We want to better serve our existing Freakonomics Radio audience with a smart, engaging social strategy, and to develop and launch a social strategy in parallel for Better in Person. We’re looking to find someone who can help us capture the standout moments in episodes across both shows and connect them to the cultural conversation in a way that delights our current audience and brings new audience members into the fold.
Who you are:
- You’ve worked as a social media producer in fact-based media, preferably in video or audio, and have a record of high-quality output.
- You’re comfortable with technical and academic content and curious about the world around you.
- You’re good at managing processes, solving problems, keeping multiple balls in the air, and sweating the small stuff.
- You’re great at fitting color, wit, and voice into the confines of a social media post without sacrificing accuracy or grammar.
What you’ll do:
Short-form editing and production:
- Edit and optimize compelling vertical clips for TikTok and Instagram.
- Craft captions, pacing, and text treatments that enhance emotional impact.
- Develop a visual style and online voice that is polished yet warm and honest.
- Maintain organized workflows and content calendars
Creative storytelling:
- Connect episode moments to broader cultural and social conversations.
- Pitch creative concepts, graphics, and recurring formats.
- Bring a thoughtful, inclusive, people-centered lens to all content.
Platform optimization and growth:
- Achieve significant audience growth for a well-known brand with a large audience but limited past investment in social media
- Apply best practices and trends specific to distinct social platforms.
- Track evolving storytelling styles and platform updates.
- Contribute to a cohesive cross-platform strategy.
Audience listening:
- Read comments and DMs daily and reply when appropriate.
- Identify audience themes, insights, and emotional takeaways.
- Provide weekly summaries to host and team.
What you’ll need:
- 2–5 years creating and editing social video for a newsroom, show, creator, or digital brand.
- Proficiency in Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar tools.
- Deep understanding of TikTok, Instagram and YouTube formats, trends, and algorithms. Understanding of other platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook as well.
- Strong storytelling instincts.
- Ability to manage a fast-paced weekly workflow.
- Excellent communication, scrupulous attention to detail, and creative problem-solving.
- Familiarity with our shows and audience.
Salary range:
Compensation will be based on an annual salary of $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience.
