Description:

Jomboy Media is a creator-led media company building communities around the topics we care about at the expense of no one (except maybe ourselves). We specialize in creator-led content across digital platforms. Jomboy Media started as a single podcast in 2017 and has grown into a media empire that includes 44 shows, 3 of the biggest baseball podcasts, 21 unique brands, and 100+ social accounts. Jomboy Media’s content is fun, not unserious. We’re bold, never inauthentic. It’s all about good times, good conversation, and having a child-like enthusiasm for the games we love.

Overview:

The VP will lead the day-to-day operations of the sales and client services team, setting the standard for four sellers and three client service members. This role requires close collaboration with all Jomboy Media departments, including Marketing, Commerce, Finance, and Content. We’re seeking a strong coach and leader who excels in operational execution, embraces our mission, and understands Jomboy Media’s unique voice in the industry. The ideal candidate will always prioritize our community, uphold our brand values, and be passionate about creating innovative revenue opportunities by leveraging our talented creators and the wealth of content we produce every day.

Key Responsibilities:

Revenue Leadership:

  • Drive revenue growth and hit direct ad sales goals, with a focus on securing long-term and multi-year partnerships.
  • Shift revenue streams toward more sustainable products and attract brand awareness partners.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to achieve and exceed revenue targets.
  • Create unique sponsorship packages by leveraging our extensive daily social video output and thinking beyond the standard rate card.

Team Management:

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, account assignments, compensation planning, ongoing training, coaching, mentorship, and necessary offboarding.
  • Lead weekly team meetings, set expectations for pipeline development, and establish regular tracking and reporting cadences.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1s with each Account Executive & Director of Client Services to review metrics and provide support.

Business Operations:

  • Partner with CEO & Finance on sales forecasting and target-setting.
  • Ensure the sales pipeline is up-to-date in Monday.com and that all internal communication is via Slack (no internal emails).
  • Complete weekly trackers, weekly updates, and revenue forecasts every Friday by 3 pm.
  • Active participation in weekly leadership meetings.

Strategic Partnerships:

  • Identify, negotiate, and establish strategic partnerships to drive brand awareness and revenue growth. For example Nielsen as a measurement partner.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, positioning Jomboy Media as the go-to partner for integrated advertising and community-driven content.

Thought Leadership:

  • Stay current with trends in the creator economy and sports media landscape to identify growth opportunities.
  • Guide the sales team’s transition from transactional campaigns to long-term, strategic partnerships

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • A desire to work collaboratively and be present for your team in the office. Jomboy Media is 100% in-office at our dynamic HQ in Midtown Manhattan.
  • The ability to attend events and in client meetings as needed, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Passion for sports, media, and the creator economy.
  • Ability to create innovative revenue opportunities and sponsorship packages.
  • Proven track record in non-traditional ad sales (podcasts, YouTube, social, custom content, tentpole packages).
  • A track record of leading a sales team to meet and exceed revenue goals.
  • Experience working and communicating with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven track record of hiring and developing talent.
  • Experience creating and tracking individual and team sales goals.
  • A willingness to get things done – you understand that in a startup environment, everyone wears multiple hats.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to go the extra mile.
  • Proficiency with Slack, Google Workspace, and Monday.com.
  • Flexibility, high energy, and a collaborative, get-it-done mindset.

Compensation + Total Rewards:

The compensation range shown below reflects the available market data for this job and level. The rate at which compensation is set at the time of hire is based on a number of factors, including location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

Jomboy Media endeavors to provide a competitive compensation package that includes short-term incentives, a robust benefits package, 401K, unlimited vacation, opportunities to attend unique sporting and media events, and all other benefits in accordance with the applicable plan documents.

The base compensation for this role is $175,000 annually plus applicable commissions. Commissions are defined by Jomboy Media’s current total rewards program, which may change from time to time.
