Location: Mail Newspapers headquarters

Position: initial 12 month FTC

Job Description

The channel manager is responsible for growing our audience for podcasts on YouTube. They will work with editorial leadership to help build our video podcast strategy, and then implement that strategy by distributing episodes in an organized, platform-optimized manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with our producers from inception to launch, ensuring our title strategy is on-point and has every chance of success.
  • Develop and implement a content calendar, work alongside our producers to continually improve formats, and create engaging titles, tags, and descriptions.
  • Produce or commission world-beating thumbnails and artwork.
  • Ensure high quality SEO techniques to improve search visibility.
  • Engage with the audience, respond to comments, moderate discussions, and foster a positive community environment.
  • Monitor channel performance, track key metrics, and generate reports to identify trends and areas for improvement, reporting back to the exec producers regularly.
  • Strategize and execute promotional campaigns to increase reach and engagement, potentially leveraging collaborations with other creators.
  • Work with other team members (e.g., producers, editors, marketers) to ensure smooth workflow and alignment on strategic goals.

Skills and Competencies:

  • A track record of building large audiences for video podcasts at a publisher or similar digital media company
  • An obsession with the podcast industry and a fluency in the major platforms, emerging trends, and challenges producers currently face
  • Content Creation & Editing: Strong understanding of video production, editing, and relevant software.
  • Adobe Photoshop and Premiere
  • SEO & Analytics: Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques and ability to analyze data effectively.
  • Marketing & Promotion: Experience in digital marketing and social media strategies.
  • Audience Engagement: Ability to connect with and engage audience on various platforms.
  • Strategic Planning: Capacity to develop and execute long-term growth strategies.
  • Technical Proficiency: Encyclopaedic knowledge of YouTube’s platform and tools.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks effectively.
