About the Podcast Hosts:
Neil S. Smith, a highly regarded NHL executive, served as the President and General Manager of the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers, leading them to significant success over eleven years. Known for his expertise in sports franchise economics, Smith played a pivotal role in shaping the team’s destiny under four different owners. His impactful career includes the 1989 draft for the Detroit Red Wings, bold NHL trades, and a brief stint as GM for the New York Islanders in 2006. A Toronto native, Smith’s hockey journey began in junior leagues, followed by a distinguished college career at Western Michigan University. He is currently an analyst for NHL Network and Rogers Sportsnet, offering unique insight into the sport he has significantly influenced.
Vic Morren, a New York City native, has been immersed in hockey as a fan, player, and TV production manager. A William Paterson University graduate, he pioneered statistical analysis for telecasts, covering NHL games from 1984-87. With a Sports Emmy for Sunday Night Football in 2003, Morren’s career includes ESPN stints from 1987 to the recent 2021-22 season.
