Think ‘Meet the Press’ – But Gayer. Launch of New Podcast by Buckeye Flame: This News Is So Gay

Evergreen Podcasts

July 2, 2025

Evergreen Podcasts proudly announces the launch of its partner’s podcast, This News Is So Gay, from The Buckeye Flame. Hosted by editor Ken Schneck, this weekly round‑table style podcast features LGBTQ+ journalists from across the country who unpack LGBTQ+ press stories.

Upcoming topics include threats to federal and state HIV/AIDS funding, local activists pushing back against oppression and corporate Pride divestment, the cutting of an LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention hotline, key legislative changes, and much more.

“Substantive yet entertaining, each episode is going to keep listeners on top of the latest LGBTQ+ news right from the mouths of those queer journalists actually writing the stories,” said Schneck. “Think ‘Meet the Press’ – but gayer!”

The first few episodes include voices from:

  • The Advocate, the queer paper of record—known for award‑winning LGBTQ+ journalism, photography, and commentary on politics, culture, health, and more.
  • Queer Kentucky, a nonprofit shining a spotlight on queer culture, health, and community through storytelling, education, and action.
  • Ohio Capital Journal, an independent, nonprofit newsroom dedicated to illuminating Ohio state government, policy impacts, and public-interest narratives across the state.
  • LOOKOUT – Arizona’s Queer News, delivering fearless, accountability‑focused LGBTQ+ reporting designed to improve representation and amplify community impact.
  • News Is Out, a pioneering national collaborative of leading queer-owned news publishers, powering impactful journalism and building a sustainable future for local LGBTQ+ media.
  • Windy City Times, Chicago’s legacy LGBTQ+ outlet (est. 1985), acclaimed for audited readership, award‑winning investigative journalism, and deep community roots.
