TRAILER OUT NOW

Tuesday 15th September — Sony Music Entertainment releases the trailer for This is History: The Tudors, the brand-new season of the hit history podcast hosted by the New York Times best-selling author and historian Dan Jones, launching on Tuesday 22nd September.

But this isn’t your typical textbook recount of The Tudors, because Dan isn’t your typical historian… With tattooed sleeves, a Paul Mescal-style chain and a stint DJing at Ministry of Sound, he’s more at home in a biker jacket than a tweed jacket. Yet underneath is a hugely knowledgeable historian with a brilliant knack for making the past feel immediate, accessible and entertaining.

Now after ten hotly-followed series spanning 331 years of The Plantagenets, Dan has reached August 22, 1485, the day King Richard III died at the Battle of Bosworth Field and Henry Tudor took the English throne. It’s the start of England’s most iconic royal family — but not as you’ve ever heard before.

Told in his signature storytelling style, which blends humour, premium sound design and rigorous historical analysis, Dan Jones reveals every dirty secret and salacious gossip, love affair, diabolical psychodrama, religious fight, legal gaslighting, and clash of egos gone totally off the rails.

Once England’s hero, Henry VII seizes the crown on a shaky claim and rules with a ruthless awareness that he may lose it at any moment, battling plotters and pretenders.

24 years later, Henry VIII transcended from glorious Renaissance prince into the world’s most infamous King, aged just 17. His deep insecurities and catastrophic marriages wrench England away from the rest of Europe, as his vanity, whims and bedroom politics take England into a new era led by queens, not kings.

His daughter, Bloody Mary, later sets the country alight as her religious enemies roast in bonfires, while the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth I — calculating, obsessively image-aware and profoundly alone amongst men — is forced to choose time and again between family and country.

It’s a world where legitimacy is fragile, political pageantry is a necessity, and wielding power demands both brilliance and brutality. In just over a century, the Tudors alter the fabric of the state and Church. Theirs is the era of the Reformation, of Shakespeare, and of voyages to the New World.

This is the ultimate story of kings and queens, seduction and spectacle, where power is seized in private chambers, performed in public and, too often, lost on an executioner’s block.

Expect to laugh out loud, marvel and be entertained as the shenanigans of the Tudors unfold with weekly episode drops on all audio platforms and YouTube. Watch on Spotify for the first time. Discover even more with a premium subscription on Patreon and Apple offering exciting bonus material.

This Is History: The Tudors will be available to listen to from Tuesday 22nd September, on all major podcast platform, visualised on Spotify and YouTube.
