Podcasting Gets Global, Programmatic Tempts CTV, and More

iHeart is Australia’s #1 podcast publisher for 50th time

Podcasting is seeing highs and lows down under as iHeart maintains their #1 spot among Australian podcast publishers for the 50th time as of June 2024. According to data aggregated by Podnews, Australian digital audio revenue also increased by 27.1% in Q2 of this year as LiSTNR was ranked the #1 sales network, and ABC won with the most shows in the top 200. On the flip side, according to Triton Digital’s Australian Podcast Ranker for June, total downloads decreased 6.2% month over month and 16% fewer episodes were published.

75% Of All CTV Transactions Are Programmatic

Advertisers are looking more and more to performance metrics to shape their digital ad spend according to a new report from IAB. Their annual Digital Video Ad Spend & Strategy report found that total digital ad spend is projected to grow 16% this year, and that outcomes were one of the determining metrics of success in social and online video, as well as CTV subtypes. Ad buyers chalked this increased usage of programmatic ads up to its “easier campaign optimization, better ROI/ROAS and greater ease achieving scale”. While podcasting is low in programmatic usage, most active buyers in the space generally prefer the hands-on approach that allows them to more closely monitor the content they purchase space on.

Sony Music’s Podcast Division Expands Global Accessibility with International Translations of Hit Podcast, “This is History” in Partnership with Podster

Sony Music’s Global Podcast Division is collaborating with translation licenser Podster to distribute the history podcast This is History: A Dynasty to Die For in five new languages and with an expanded global reach. This deal makes This is History Sony’s first multi-language podcast, another case of podcasting’s increasing popularity on a worldwide scale. It also marks another step in increasing accessibility in the industry, from Apple Podcast’s automatic transcript feature launched earlier this year, to more shows than ever being made accessible for non-English speaking audiences.
