About the role:

The Finance Controller oversees financial operations, manages the Finance Assistant, and ensures the smooth running of day-to-day finance functions. Responsibilities include supervising supplier payments, treasury management, and leading the monthly billing cycle. The role involves building relationships with operational teams, conducting cost reviews, and managing compliance tasks such as VAT returns and payroll. The Controller plays a key role in financial reporting, and statutory obligations, and advocates for best practices while handling ad hoc duties as required.

  • The role is a part-time position on a 12-month FTC (maternity cover), requiring 3 days per week, with at least 1 day a week in our London offices.

  • The preferred start date is April 2024.

  • As this role is part-time, we welcome applicants who require flexible working hours/days.

What you’ll do

  • Line manager for Finance Assistant, conducting regular check-ins and quarterly goal setting.

  • Oversee day-to-day tasks of Finance Assistant, providing training as needed.

  • Review and approve supplier payment runs; manage treasury and provide cash flow updates to CFO.

  • Ownership of monthly billing cycle, including preparation and sending of invoices.

  • Manage debt book including handling any billing queries from clients and all proactive credit control duties.

  • Conduct monthly cost review meetings with budget holders and establish strong relationships with the commercial operations team.

  • Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of month-end management accounts using Xero & Joiin.

  • Prepare monthly company cohorts analysis along with insights and commentary.

  • Review and submit quarterly VAT returns.

  • Preparation of PSA workings and submission of P11d data to external accountants.

  • Payroll for both UK and US, seeking CFO approval.

  • Own statutory reporting for UK and US, including account preparation and tax returns.

  • Manage monthly and quarterly ONS returns.

  • Liaise with third-party providers, clients, and suppliers as well as external accountants and tax advisors.

  • Advocate for best practice procedures and policies.

  • Undertake ad hoc duties as required.

Who you are

  • Qualified accountant 2 years PQE.

  • You will have experience of Xero.

  • You will have had previous managerial experience.

  • A high level of accuracy is important to you.

  • Inquisitive mind and confidence to push through change.

  • You pride yourself on excellent communication skills.
