The Team

Arcana Audio is developing a new daily morning show elevating women’s voices and perspectives, in partnership with a major Hollywood production company. Every weekday, the team will work together to produce a variety of segments, from interviews with celebrity guests to pop culture talk to segments on wellness, books, fashion, and more. The production team and hosts are based in Los Angeles and record the show in-studio in Burbank. The producers, hosts, and engineer will work together closely to create segments that are engaging and playful. 

The Job

The show’s mixing engineer will collaborate closely with the production team and hosts to assemble, score, and mix every episode to the highest industry standards. They will help develop and maintain the musical style and sonic identity of the show.  The mixing engineer will play a significant role in the functioning of the team, and they are the last person to touch the episode before publishing.  Alongside the show’s board op, the mixing engineer will help to direct the post-production process and ensure the audio quality of each episode.

What You’ll Do

  • Help to lead the day-to-day operations of the show, assisting in the development and refinement of the production/post-production process

  • Edit and mix approximately five ~30-minute episodes each week using ProTools. 

  • Edit and mix show promos, social media assets and other marketing materials

  • Ensure and maintain proper loudness levels during playback 

  • Cut down live-to-tape host tracking and interview segments with guidance from producers

  • Work directly with producers to revise mixes based on editorial and aesthetic feedback

  • Join recording sessions with hosts, collaborating closely with board op/studio engineer

  • Help select music cues and/or sound design elements that fit with the show’s overall sonic aesthetic 

  • Assist in developing the show’s overall musical tone during piloting

  • Maintain a clear organizational structure for the show’s audio assets, music library and other production related files

  • Train freelance audio engineers in the show’s workflow and requirements, as needed

  • Occasional late/early morning hours may be required

What You Have

  • A minimum of three years of experience mixing in a professional environment

  • Experience mixing and editing

  •  a daily show, either podcasts or radio

  • Experience recording dialog and interviews, and/or board operation in a radio/TV environment

  • The ability to work quickly, communicate effectively, and remain calm on tight deadlines

  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively on a team

  • Experience working with host talent

  • The ability to discern and prioritize which aspects of the mix are most important

  • The ability to flexibly and resourcefully solve technical problems and troubleshoot with help from the show’s technical director

  • Fluency in ProTools in both operation and troubleshooting

  • Demonstrable experience with audio restoration software, and other industry-standard audio tools
