The Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications brings The Moth brand to life and helps more people discover it. Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Communications, you’ll lead integrated campaigns that build events and podcasts, and deepen engagement with our mission – from concept through execution and measurement.
This role suits a marketer who pairs creative instinct with strategic rigor: as comfortable crafting a campaign narrative as using audience data to refine strategy and allocate budget. You’ll collaborate across Production, Artistic, Development, Workshops, and agency partners.
Responsibilities
Brand & Integrated Campaigns
– Steward The Moth’s brand voice, positioning, and visual identity across all channels.
– Lead integrated campaigns for live events, podcasts, national initiatives, fundraising, and other org priorities – brief through execution and reporting.
– Develop creative briefs that translate goals and audience insight into compelling, consistent campaigns.
– Manage campaign budgets and help allocate marketing investment for impact.
– Spot brand-building opportunities through partnerships and timely storytelling.
Audience Growth: Live Events & Podcast
– Develop strategies that grow live event attendance and podcast listenership/downloads, balancing national priorities with local insight.
– Monitor sales performance with Production and optimize campaigns through the sales cycle.
– Build community and distribution partnerships that expand and diversify audiences.
– Produce audio promotional content; surface storytelling moments worth amplifying.
Communications
– Own campaign messaging across email, web, social, paid media, and promotional materials.
– Support press opportunities, media briefs, and talent opportunities with the PR liaison.
– Oversee email strategy – messaging, segmentation, editorial calendar.
Analytics & Leadership
– Turn Ticket sales, audience behavior, and campaign data into strategies that improve acquisition, retention, and engagement; report on what’s working.
– Mentor junior marketing staff and interns (no direct reports).
– Liaise with The Moth’s digital agency on paid social, Google Grants, and SEO.
Required Qualifications
– 7+ years developing integrated brand campaigns across owned, earned, and paid channels.
– Exceptional strategic writing/messaging skills; proven experience shaping brand voice and creative direction.
– Experience marketing live events, media, entertainment, arts, or cultural experiences, with strong audience acquisition/conversaion knowledge.
– Experience managing paid media, directly or via agency partners.
– Proficiency in email marketing platforms (Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred).
– Fluency with digital analytics tools (social insights, Google Analytics) and turning data into action.
– Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
– Able to work occasional evenings/weekends, travel periodically, and stand for extended periods at events.
Nice-to-have
– Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
– Nonprofit arts, media, entertainment, or public media experience.
– Audio/podcast audience development or media distributor experience.
– Agency relationship and creative production management.
– Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
– Familiarity with Airtable or similar tools.
– Genuine passions for storytelling, live performance, or brand-building.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $100,000-$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; employer-sponsored retirement plan; generous PTO and holidays; commuter benefits.
