Women and Crime podcast is hosted by Dr. Meghan Sacks and Dr. Amy Shlosberg both 20-year veterans of the criminal justice field. Every week, they examine a new case involving a female victim or offender through a criminologist’s lens giving listeners insights into social and psychological theories that caused the events described.
This March, for Women’s History Month, each episode, the Women and Crime podcast will focus on a woman who brought more justice to the world!
- 3/5/24 Ep. Release – (celebrating International Women’s Day on 3/8) The courageous Malala Yousafzai, a human rights advocate for the education of women and world’s youngest laureate of the Nobel peace prize. Her challenge of the Taliban’s ban on female education motivated an attack by a gunman, but a miraculous recovery allowed her to change education for girls and women globally.
- 3/12/24 Ep. Release – Lissa Yellow Bird, survived abuse, addiction, and incarceration, and now is a symbol of hope in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women movement.
- 3/19/24 Ep. Release – Susan Burton overcame cycles of abuse and incarceration to become an activist, author and leading advocate for previously incarcerated women, helping to break their own cycles of recidivism and violence.
- 3/26/24 Ep. Release – Jana Monroe, a former FBI agent, was one of the first-ever female profilers in the famed BSU (Behavioral Science Unit) inspiring the character Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, in the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Meghan Sacks, Ph.D. is a Professor of Criminology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she teaches and researches on topics including women and crime, serial killers, bail reform and sex offender policy.
Amy Shlosberg, Ph.D. is the Department Chair and a Professor of Criminology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she teaches and researches wrongful convictions, offender reentry and reintegration, and education in prisons.
Both hosts also serve as regular experts on true crime television series and documentaries.
