February 6, 2024 – Gen-Z Media’s scripted podcast series, Nightingale, took home the top award for Best Podcast Tweens/Teens Programming at Kidscreen 2024 in San Diego, CA. The Kidscreen Awards program is a high-profile celebration of excellence in content for youth that pays tribute to outstanding TV and digital media for the year. Nightingale is the second consecutive win in this category for Gen-Z Media, with its podcast Tomorrow taking home the top prize in 2023.
Combining the adventure of The Chronicles of Narnia with the all-the-feels drama of Five Feet Apart, Nightingale centers on a group of teenage patients in the pediatric cancer ward. Dani, Sarah and Rocco come together to discover a hidden portal leading to Nightingale – a strange world inhabited by automatons locked in a life-or-death struggle with a disembodied “Darkness.” As the Darkness threatens to pass beyond Nightingale and infect their world, the teenagers are thrust into an epic adventure where, no longer just victims of their illnesses, they have a chance to become heroes.
Created and distributed by Gen-Z Media, Penned by Marvel Alum Aaron Steven, and starring Ben Shenkman (“Angels in America”), the 12-episode series seeks to honor the struggle of kids and families dealing with serious illnesses. It attracted a passionate audience of over 150,000 tweens, teens and their families in its first months and inspired reviews from young people who have battled cancer, grateful to see their experiences represented in a thoughtful and entertaining format.
